Engaged! My Houston Engagement Adventure

You may have seen our Star Trek-themed announcement on Facebook… We’re engaged! My FIANCÉ (doesn’t that just feel good?) popped the question just over 2 weeks ago (2 weeks that have been a bit crazy, by the way). He proposed at the Houston Zoo, and then surprised me with a day of visiting our favorite places in Houston. It was absolutely perfect – not to mention a total surprise, Read More! [...]

Highly Recommend: “Lean In” by Sheryl Sandberg

Over the last few months I have been slowly but surely reading the book "Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead" by Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook. The book is all about the reality women face in the workplace - not only the challenges handed to us by society, but the things we are doing to ourselves to make our own lives harder. This includes not sitting at the table, undercutting our own self confidence, and placing unfair expectations on ourselves in the workplace and at home. Read More! [...]

Election Day PSA

Tomorrow is Election Day! I have been trying to find a good resource that lists all of the measures on the Harris County ballot and I haven't been able to find one - so I put together some links I found (from lots of different parties/places) in my research if you want to do some reading before you cast your vote. My First Kickstarter Backing! BatteryBot from Mimoco

I love Mimobots - those swanky USB drives with the fun designs that include DC Comics, Star Trek, Star Wars, Hello Kitty,  and historical figures like Abraham Lincoln. Well, Mimoco (the company behind Mimobots) is using Kickstarter to launch a new product called BatteryBot. BatteryBot uses the same cool design aesthetic in a portable battery charger for any USB device. I love the work the team at Mimoco does, and it was enough to get me Read More! [...]

Adventures in Beanie Baby Collecting

A friend recently posted this article on a book called "The Beanie Baby Handbook" - a book published in 1998 on the ins and outs of Beanie Baby collecting - and what a great investment Beanie Baby collecting is (was). The book shows the estimated value of Beanie Babies in 1998 and what the value will be in the future - way out in 2008. For instance, the book estimates that Stripes the Tiger will be valued at $1,000 by 2008. (If anyone is selling these anywhere close to that, please let me know!) Read More! [...]

Musings on Sex and the City

Moments ago, I finished rewatching Sex and the City in its glorious six season entirety. The image above is from the final scene of season 6B episode 8. I've now seen every episode now at least three times. At this point, the characters feel like friends in some strange way. Read More! [...]
