ACL Fest 2009: Rain Can’t Stop the Rock

The Austin City Limits music festival this year can pretty much be summed up in one tweet: “Rain can’t stop the rock” – Jason Expectations It was my 7th consecutive year at ACL, so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. The curve ball this year was the festival date change. Pushing ACL back from September to October took it from guaranteed sweltering summer heat to a potential grab bag of who-the-hell-knows what Read More!

Ben Folds Presents Collegiate A Cappella: A Review with no Accompaniment

In this time of introspection (on the eve of my election), I now say to my reflection, “God, please spare me more rejection.” – Ben Folds My Review: Ben Folds Presents Collegiate Acappella If you love Ben Folds OR you love Collegiate A Cappella (yes, I realize they are not the same), you are guaranteed to at least think this album is fair. If you are among the luckiest of us who enjoy both the alluring lullaby of collegiate Read More!

I love covers: my top 15 cover favorites.

I don’t know if you know this, but I love covers. One of my favorite things in life is when, at a live show, a band busts out a completely random song that everyone knows… even if they don’t know the band on stage. The more random/obscure/not fitting with their genre, the better. The crowd begins singing along (even those who don’t even know what stage at Zilker Park they’ve wandered to), and everyone hears the so Read More!

Wanted: Piano Keyboard

Looking for a touch sensitive (weight probably) keyboard for $100-$200. I’m thinking something like this: http://tinyurl.com/5w9fe4. Any suggestions? Can’t move the piano to Houston just yet. Sadly. If you will help me with this, I hope to finally achieve my dream of accompanying my own singing/ the ability to perform solo. My goal is to learn (and perform for you, if I’m ever feeling brave) when I get my keyboard: 1. “ Read More!

“while we breathe, we hope”

[youtube tQGsP8mnHsg] “Hello, Chicago. “If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer. “It’s the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen, by people who waited three hours and four ho Read More!

Us

Maybe it’s all the empowerment I feel today, but I can’t get the Regina Spektor song “Us” out of my head. [youtube 9pKujuTgtL0] They made a statue of us And it put it on a mountain top Now tourists come and stare at us Blow bubbles with their gum Take photographs for fun, for fun They’ll name a city after us And later say it’s all our fault Then they’ll give us a talking to Then they’ll give us a Read More!

Day 3: Music

Music calms the troubled soul. Tonight I had the coincidental pleasure to enjoy two of my favorite musical obsessions – Jason Mraz at Nokie Live and High School Musical 3 premiere at midnight. It was one of those perfect nights that make you feel like everything is right with the world. And that’s exactly what I needed today. More soon, but for now it’s three in the morning and time for some rest. Peace and Love to all. Day 3 Read More!
