Moments ago, I finished rewatching Sex and the City in its glorious six season entirety. The image above is from the final scene of season 6B episode 8.
I’ve now seen every episode at least three times: watching it every night in syndication during my college years, in 2007 (my senior year) when I first watched the seasons on DVD in order back to back with one of my dearest girlfriends, and most recently watching the seasons again on HBO Go over the past few months. Note that I own a beautiful collector’s box set of all of the DVDs, but I prefer streaming on HBO Go when I can (much easier).
I have to say that this time around it felt a little different. Maybe because I’m an “adult” and felt more connection to what these characters would really experience with marriage, babies, money, cancer, etc. I’ll admit I even got choked up a few times while watching (especially the last season). I honestly don’t recall having such an emotional response when watching those episodes any other time. I first started watching this series as a “kid” ten years ago – at this point in my life, I can actually connect to what the characters are going through.
My Favorite Sex and the City Quotes
I did want to share a few of my favorite moments from the show!
My most favorite SATC quote (it’s even at the bottom of my bio page on qcait.com):
“You have to figure… if the world’s fattest twins can find love, there’s hope for all of us. Somewhere out there is another little freak who will love us, understand us, and kiss our 3 heads and make it all better.”
“When life gets this confusing, there is only one thing to do – attend a fabulous party”
“He’s Just Not that Into You”.
I can’t say enough good things about the book spawned from this classic SATC episode. I’m not ashamed to say – that book got me through some shit in college. Bonus points that my copy was handed down to me from a dear friend when she got married. I hope to hand it off again someday.
(Sidenote: the “He’s Just Not that Into You” movie had the exact opposite message of the book and should never be spoken of again).
“Hallmark doesn’t make a ‘Congratulations you didn’t marry the wrong guy’ card” (bonus , you can buy this one on Etsy)
“This love stuff is a motherfucker.” #preach
Bonus: My Favorite Song (Sort of) from Sex and the City
The final scene of the final episode of the final season of the Sex and the City TV show (pictured above) depicts the girls walking down the street after leaving the coffee shop for the last time. It is one of my most favorite TV moments. Everything from the outfits to the song is perfection. That song is a remix of “You’ve Got the Love” by The Source. I was thrilled when I first heard Florence + the Machine cover the song, and every time I hear it all I can think of is that moment.
