How to read the Harry Potter series

December 15th, 2008

“I was skeptical at first… but now I can’t get enough!”

How I did it: My sister gave me 1 year notice that she wants to go to newly opening Harry Potter world (part of Universal Studios in Florida) after her high school graduation. She also informed me that I was not invited on the trip unless I read all 7 books. Each book only took a few weeks between work and other commitments, and it took me about a year to finish them all.

After each of the first 5 books, my boyfriend and I would watch the corresponding movie. I can’t wait until the sixth one comes out!

Lessons & tips:

  • I attempted to begin reading them a few years ago and got bored. Stick with it! You’ll be hooked soon enough.
  • When you finish reading each book, discuss it with others who have read it. It’s great to get others’ insight.
  • By the time I got to the 7th book, I put off starting it because I didn’t want the whole thing to be over!
  • Enjoy the hype! Go to the movie premieres at midnight… it’s a great one of a kind experience!

Resources: The audio books (narrated by Jim Dale) are absolutely fantastic. I would listed on walks/ car trips, especially in the beginning.

They are widely available on torrent sites.

It took me 12 months.

It made me feel accomplished
