Day 4: Rest and Relaxation
Except for a semi-traumatic two hour dentist appointment, today was very relaxing. I had some day off and the opportunity to hang out with one of my favorite people in the world. I’m still finding myself occasionally over emotional… but I’m feeling pretty zen today.
On a fairly unrelated note: Something that has always made me happy is to put on a costume and be a different me for a little while. Below are my pics from my Sharpay Evans costume that I’ll be wearing at the street party in the Gayborhood tomorrow… get excited (I know I am):

Music calms the troubled soul. Tonight I had the coincidental pleasure to enjoy two of my favorite musical obsessions - Jason Mraz at Nokie Live and High School Musical 3 premiere at midnight.
It was one of those perfect nights that make you feel like everything is right with the world. And that’s exactly what I needed today.
More soon, but for now it’s three in the morning and time for some rest. Peace and Love to all.
Day 3 Soundtrack:
“All I wanna do… is be with you” - High School Musical 3
“There’s no need to hesitate no more. I cannot wait. I’m Yours” - Jason Mraz

As a continuation of my quest for inner peace, today I’m trying yet another tactic. No, not the delightful dinner with my mother (or the Pinot Grigio - though I’ve always thought it brings a kind of clarity). Today’s tactic is to simplify my life.
Day 2. Tactic: Simplify.
Below is a picture of all the possessions I let go of tonight. Four shopping bags to throw away, seven to donate away… totalling to a bathroom full of useless things. I’m starting to feel the weight lift already.
Edit - the kitten is not getting donated. She’s critical to my inner peace.
Soundtrack of today: G. Love and Special Sauce “This Ain’t Livin’,” Rilo Kiley “Silver Lining,” and Jason Mraz “Only Human”

I’ve been internally conflicted lately - a feeling I’m neither accustomed to nor do I quite understand how to deal with. Therefor I have decided upon self-imposed drastic measures. For the next five days, I will be embarking on a quest. I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for - inner peace, peace of mind, self discovery… I suppose I’d settle for a general acceptance that I don’t have control over what happens in my life.
I suppose the key to enlightenment takes time and patience, but I’m taking a different approach. For each day, I will enact a different tactic to find what I’m looking for. I will document my discoveries here, so stay tuned.
Day 1. Tactic: Retail Therapy
This is a tactic that has served as a reliable mood enhancer in the past, making it the logical first step on my road to peace. The pleasure of shopping coupled with the pleasure of new things sans the worry of monetary strain (thanks to a few gift cards I’ve been stashing since my birthday).
Top buy: a locket on a chain. I have written a few of my worries and unanswered questions and stored them inside for safe keeping. Putting these in my necklace and keeping them off my mind is step one to accepting things I can’t control.
Day 1. Tactic: Change in Outward Appearance to Foster Change Internally
They say that when women lose control of their lives, they hang on to the things they can control - like their hair. I’ve been known to dye my hair purple after a bad break up (that isn’t what this is about by the way, in case you were thinking as such), and cut off about 6 inches when I graduated from college as a part of coming to grips with the real world. I don’t think it’s exactly my form of a disguise - more like the biggest change I can make with the smallest effort. The easiest way to feel more fabulous and in control with only $6 and 35 minutes. It works for all those people on What Not to Wear…
Soundtrack of Day 1: Corrinne Bailey Rae “Like a Star,” Sara Bareilles “Bottle It Up,” Grand Ole Party “Gypsy March”
More to come, my friends…

Election day is 30 days away, and I think it’s very important that when we consider a candidate, we pay close attention to what the candidate can do for kittens.
As of last week, The Humane Society officially endorses Barack Obama because of his support of animal rights - they even have a blog called Bark Obama - (get it?).
No matter who you vote for, tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in Texas, so if you haven’t already - print out and fill out this form and make sure it’s postmarked tomorrow. If you’re already registered (in Dallas), but not sure where you should go to vote - check out the Dallas Country elections site.
